Well, it’s almost here. January 1, 2013. The first day of 2013 where everyone sets new goals, starts new lifestyles, makes big changes and little changes.
Personally, the end of the year is always a nice wrap up for my organized mind. I find it fun to transfer over files, make tweaks, and start completely fresh for a new year. I love it.
As a matter of fact a few nights ago I locked myself in our office and started the “transfer” and then I decided this was the year to get into the color coding I had anticipated for a long term goal when I married my husband. This year I finally had enough supplies saved up to make it happen! It is oh so beautiful.
I am not a big resolution maker I admit. I admire people who do. But, maybe it is because I am constantly setting goals for myself each month, each week, each day. That I don’t feel the need to do anything special come January 1st.
However, I know that most of the population does…
This year I would like to challenge my readers to create a resolution of their own that involves learning more about food production.
I would love for consumers to gain more confidence in the grocery store and to feel comfortable no matter what decision they make for their families.
And, to turn over a new leaf I will challenge myself…I hope in the next year I continue to get just as many questions as I get now, and more, from the most important people in a farmer’s life- the American consumer!

I have a goal. At our Indiana Farm Bureau State Convention, the theme was ENGAGE, but as I looked around, I realized that there was a huge gap between those who know how to engage in the 21st Century and those who are still communicating in 20th century mode. I want to start educating the older generation, (cringe!) people my age and older, on how to use smart phones and tablets to truly ENGAGE in AG talks and promote Agriculture to their generation and those on either side of the hill. I’m going to try and start with a program during our annual meeting that will teach the men to download Growers Edge on their phones and/or show them how to load it on their computers and use the program with their farm production and grain marketing. I would like to introduce the ladies to Pinterest, but I think we will start with Facebook and give them Ag pages to follow. I am also going to try and spread the word, like I am now, to see if others will help with this project. If one older farmer sits down at the coffee shop this winter and shows his friend how to load a program on to his phone, then maybe the ripples in the pond will grow!
Happy New Year!
