Top Posts of 2012: What A Year!

January 8, 2013 by Morgan 2 Comments

What a year it has been…

A year of unforgettable memories for us as we welcomed our daughter into our lives. Yes, our life has changed…but all for the better. We love having her a part of it and couldn’t imagine life any differently.

A year of change for us both as I have adjusted my schedule to pertain more to my daughter. I still love volunteering and enjoy spending time with my husband, giving rides, helping him with chores, or riding along as he hauls corn. Now, I have just learned to tote our daughter along too!

A year of acceptance. I think this one was the hardest for me since our daughter was born. I have this wonderful college degree that for the last few years I have struggled with not ever applying it- in the classroom. I have primarily been working on the farm and filling in with a few positions whenever I get a call for help…but I have really struggled with not actually having a career since I became a “Mommy”. My husband and I have had the “stay at home” talk over and over and this year I think I finally accepted it. One day I just decided that staying home with our daughter and helping my husband as he needs it isn’t about me- it’s for our daughter. I want to create memories with her and when I think of missing milestones it breaks my heart. The day I think I finally hammered that in to my head I moved all of my teaching materials to the basement. I stored all of my really cool teaching props. And ever since then I have felt acceptance. And it honestly felt like I made the perfect decision. I am still educating about agriculture anyway, just not in a classroom!

A year of slow blogging! With all the changes this year…a new baby born via c-section and 3 surgeries that followed it..I had a crazy last 8 months to 2012.Which, if you are a regular around here can easily be portrayed in my blogging!

But, in honor of the new year…here are the Top Posts of Stories Of A First Generation Farm Wife from 2012:

Thanks for your post on being a stay-at-home mom. I first struggled with “not using” my college degrees when my husband and I decided that the best place for me was at home. I also felt 100% better after I had put all of my school items in the basement.

It was tough Renae! That is for sure. But, you are right in feeling 100% better once everything is out of sight! Kudos to Stay At Home Mommas!

I met my husband for the first time face to face on the exit ramp that is now down the road from our home. I lived in South Dakota for a year before I was sure I was ready to do this whole "farm wife" thing...(read more!)
