What A First Week

April 25, 2012 by Morgan 6 Comments

Well, we have finished up the first week of being home with our little one.

And what a relief to be home!

A little over a week ago we went in for an ultrasound to check on baby.

Well, right after that ultrasound we were walked over to labor and delivery. I didn’t have much of a choice as the fluid in the Baby’s placenta was low, so it was time to get the show on the road!

The day came and went and turned into day 2, which eventually led into day 3.

I developed a fever sometime during labor. The baby was turned face up and after almost 3 hours of trying to get her out the labor ended with a c-section that I was completely knocked out for.

Since I developed that lovely little fever Elliette spent her first 2 days in the NICU and I didn’t get to hold her until early the next morning.

Wow, talk about a journey. I didn’t have the easiest pregnancy, so mentally I was prepared for a non easy labor. I never imagined it would end like it did.

Our first week at home has went pretty well and on Sunday I felt up to a tractor ride. It was a short one and it was a bit hard on me…but it was worth it to see Elliette’s face as she took in all the different things in the tractor!

My personal favorite…She always gives us this “pirate” look.

But, no worries. We didn’t forget about our “firstborn” children. When we stopped at Target after the hospital we picked up some bones for the pups. Needless to say Quincy really, really liked his…

Planting and calving are still going full force around here. Today we should finish up planting all our corn and we are just over 2/3 done with calving. Not that I can really say much. The last 2 weeks I have been quite busy with baby. My mother in law was kind enough to cook for me this week and I hope in the next week I will get more into the groove of being “Mommy” and “Farmwife”.

Morgan she is so cute! Sorry to hear how you’re labor ended up. That stinks to go through all of that and then not get to hold her right away! My mom came and stayed with us for the first two weeks and helped out where I needed her too. So I was eased into the being a mother, farmwife, etc role. It get’s easier! You’re lucky to have food cooked for you. That was one of the toughest parts-juggling a baby and trying not to burn dinner! ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck! Can’t wait to see more pictures!

She is beautiful! And I know what you mean about deliveries not going as planned…but in the end, your precious bundle of joy makes it all worth while. Congratulations!

Morgan give your body time to heal Don’t rush into working. Take care of your precious baby. I like the one eyed look.

I met my husband for the first time face to face on the exit ramp that is now down the road from our home. I lived in South Dakota for a year before I was sure I was ready to do this whole "farm wife" thing...(read more!)
