Last Saturday Jason and I attended the South Dakota Corn Annual Meeting. Since Jason is a Director on the Corn Utilization Council we attend every year and listen to speakers and attend a wonderful evening meal, then listen to a band and try not to spend all our money on the silent auction items!
Every year we get to listen to a wonderful speaker and hear the awards given out for the year. Other than the past board member awards and the presidential awards there are 4 other awards given.
One is the Excellence in Public Outreach award.. When they give out the awards they don’t quite tell you who they are awarding it to. They read about the individual and then eventually some pictures will show up on the slides. Then they finally say who that person is….
Every year I enjoy playing the guessing game. This year I was just a LOT bit surprised to discover that I was awarded this award!
Wow, what an honor! I was literally so shocked I just about let the water works start. In the past this award has typically been given to reporters, news writers, etc. To get it as a blogger was so shocking and so exciting.
This award couldn’t have came at a better time for me. And it is one I will always cherish. It is the first award I have received from agriculture in the state of South Dakota. And, because the men who nominated me for it are such wonderful representations of South Dakota agriculture I feel so honored they chose me this year!
