Every now and then I do a post about fashion on the farm. Whether it be the latest blue jeans I have fallen in love with or a new coat sent to me by Carhartt to try out. Today I am feeling so girly because I was sent the new (and talked about all the time it seems) lipstick that everyone seems to be falling in love with.
I totally am the first to admit I don’t like “direct sales” type of things. Maybe because it’s out of my comfort zone or everyone I know seems to be selling the latest “hot item”. However, I am also the first to admit that my opinion lately has really been changed due to some really awesome products I have recently been trying. In the past I have always made an attempt to purchase from my friends , I figure I easily can find something I like. I think it’s important to support friends in their endeavors and if they are passionate about the product then I want to support them!
Before I married my farmer I used to get dressed nice nearly every day. And I am talking hair, make-up, clothes, everything. I won’t lie sometimes I really miss that extra time spent into pampering myself, but let’s get real- the cows don’t care. And honestly, whatever I do to myself is most likely going to get sweat off in at least 2.4 seconds of chasing around my toddler, or chasing around cattle. Plus, I like to be comfortable. I like being able to crawl around on the floor to play peek-a-boo. Or snuggle up for loves during nap time without having to worry about getting make-up on the pillows.
Other than pampering myself I can honestly say the one thing I miss, and I have said it often, is lipstick/lipgloss. Ever since my stepmom got me hooked onto Mac products I have loved their lipstick and glosses. I carried that love all through high school, college, and my adult life. But, sometimes their lip glosses can be “sticky” or have more of that wet feel. Which means when I throw square bales into a feed bunk the hay that is flying off of it gets stuck to my lips. Which then means I angrily wipe it off onto my coat. So, forget the lipstick and glosses.
A few of my friends started selling Lipsence. And I admit I was intrigued. I had been debating for a bit about trying it. But, I was pretty convinced it wasn’t going to make me stray from the Mac lipstick I still used on date nights.
Well, a reader reached out a few weeks ago and really wanted to send me some Lipsence. She was reaching out to women farmers to try the product. I couldn’t say no. I narrowed down some color options and then told her to surprise me.
I was pretty excited when I received the lipgloss and I was just headed out to supper with a group of my favorite girls, so I immediately put it on.
At first it has a bit of a “burn” to it? If that makes sense….I am guessing it has something to do with the cosmetic alcohol that is in the gloss- plus it only last about 3 seconds and then it’s done. Then I was starting to get concerned because it felt so sticky. Stickier than anything I have ever worn before. But, I gave it time and counted to like 15 between layers- which there were three of, then applied the gloss.
Once everything dried and I could rub my lips together I noticed a few things.
Even though I had layered on three times it didn’t feel “heavy”
And the stickiness was gone- just gone. And I didn’t feel at all like I couldn’t take a drink or even kiss my kids. Which is what I did a few days later, and our little Elliette was less than thrilled that it didn’t leave “kiss marks”
I also noticed that when I put it on first thing in the morning I could come home a after preschool pick up and immediately go outside to check cows without wiping it off, which is what I found myself doing in the past because I don’t need dust sticking to my lips!
It’s official, I LOVE this product. I feel like the burning/tingling thing is a bit weird, but I got over it real fast. I LOVE how I can wear it all day, every day. And I feel really confident just wearing it and no other make-up which is what I have been doing a lot lately. I also noticed that sometimes in the early afternoon it was obvious that I was losing the color. However, part of me wants to contribute that to me not following directions and being patient between coats. Plus, I am guessing you should probably reapply again at some point in the day to keep the color looking good.
When I asked her to choose my color between what I had narrowed down I got Cappucino. My other choice was Praline Rose Diamond (Isn’t it beautiful?). I was initially aiming for something more neutral but now that I have tried neutral I definitely wanted to try something else, so another friend of mine gave be a tube of Bella.
Both colors are amazing and very much me. I am actually debating about trying something a little more drastic and sometimes I pull up the email from Rachel that she sent me with all these photos and I try and convince myself I can pull off the Dark Pink.
Rachel was awesome enough to offer 15% off to my readers for a starter kit. And, if you are on the fence like I was I would really encourage you to try it. It’s worth the cost- trust me! And 15% off is a steal for this lip kit! First off, you need to like her Facebook page. Which you can find here– it’s called Kiss Proof💋Last Proof💋Life Proof💋 Second, reach out to her and mention you saw her Lipsence on Stories Of A First Generation Farm Wife. Third, if you do try this amazing stuff, please tell me! I want to know what color you chose! 🙂
The cows may not care about lipstick, but the cow farmer does!
**Rachel supplied me with this product (Thanks again Rachel!). However, all opinions expressed are my own. If you have more questions about the product Rachel is your gal!
