The Harvest Rush

September 18, 2013 by Morgan 2 Comments

It’s here again this year, and comes pretty much every year around this time…The Harvest Rush.

It means early mornings, very late nights, running back and forth from field to field, and having a farmer that is going a mile minute. Last week was pretty busy for me. I love staying busy. I love early mornings, late nights, full days…I feel the most productive.
Here was what my week looked like…

The one and only tractor nap I was able to get out of this girl this week!
I raked some hay, and then some more hay….

And then some more hay….

And then when I was almost done my hubby baled it.

I got to see this cutie smile at me every time I came to get her from her Daddy!
We chopped a whole lot of corns silage. And we successfully tarped our pile down on a rather windy day. It helps when you have 8 little kids running around that can lay down on the tarp to hold it down.
I drove the water trailer around the section and watered all the new fence posts my husband set a couple of days ago. She is my helper.
And, in the midst of harvest I am getting my garden cleaned up. She wanted to run behind the wagon because she could then talk to the cattle in the feed yard…and Grandma’s kitties…
And I baked 4 dozen cookies to get me through my cooking week for the farm. Not to mention two loaves of pumpkin bread and some brownies.
I ended last week moving the bales my husband baled. I stacked them all nice in a line ready and waiting to be hauled for feed for our cattle.

Our busy season is already busy with us being in the fields non stop, but that doesn’t mean the other work just gets pushed to the side. There is still hay to be baled, cattle to be fed, fence to set, meals to make.

This is where the farmer’s wife comes in…or so I keep telling myself
Happy Harvest!

My husband is pushing silage for the local dairies, going on the 17th day tomorrow. We haven’t had much rain or anything to slow it down other than a few break downs ๐Ÿ™‚ And we go straight into harvest too! I plan to see my husband sometime in December!

Oh WOW! I totally feel for you- do you guys have kids? That would be tough to be a single Momma for that long! And we have been pushing hard at silage two about 2.5 weeks in now! Happy Harvest to you guys!

I met my husband for the first time face to face on the exit ramp that is now down the road from our home. I lived in South Dakota for a year before I was sure I was ready to do this whole "farm wife" thing...(read more!)
