Mom’s Day On The Farm

June 2, 2013 by Morgan 1 Comment

One of the really cool things that happens in South Dakota is an event ran by South Dakota Ag United and South Dakota CommonGround.

It’s called “Mom’s Day On The Farm” or “Food and Fitness On The Farm”

Basically a “Day Out On The Farm”.

Taking an entire day out of the summer is a pretty big commitment. Especially if it’s in between swimming lessons, summer school, play dates- not to mention taking one of those precious vacation days from your  job.

But, I am pretty positive you will not be disappointed to take the time out of your day to make this happen.

There are a few different tour options. But, the gist of the day is traveling to various farms and seeing first hand just where your food actually comes from.

Participants at a Pork Farm.

At a Dairy Farm

At a Beef Farm

It is the perfect opportunity to find the answers to your food questions- whether that’s organics, antibiotics, hormones, free range, or modern farming practices.

A great time to ask the experts!

I have a feeling even this beef farmer’s wife will learn a little something. Probably a lot of something!

The farm tour I am headed to this year is on June 20, and I am really looking forward to it.

The farm that day will head to a beef farm, dairy farm, and hog farm. A FREE lunch will be provided!

Last year we had the Food Professionals Day On The Farm stop here at our place and have some lunch- it was pretty yummy if I say so myself. After lunch I talked a little bit about our farm and myself, and then we walked up to our feed lot and talked about Beef cattle, I answered tons of really great questions and talked about what types of feed we feed our cattle. All in all, I really enjoyed the hour or so everyone was here, and I think they did too!

Not only do you get to learn more about food, farming, and the families behind it, but you get a goodie bag, that is filled with goodies!

Every attendee on the farm tour gets a $50 gift card to Fairway grocery stores. And every attendee will also be entered for a chance to win $125 in grocery gift cards.

The dates for the farm tours are:

June 20
July 11
July 15
July 18

For more information about the tours and sign up visit Ag United’s website. Or you can email me and I will put you in contact with someone from Ag United to get you signed up.

I am really looking forward to seeing and meeting some of my followers. I can’t wait!

I met my husband for the first time face to face on the exit ramp that is now down the road from our home. I lived in South Dakota for a year before I was sure I was ready to do this whole "farm wife" thing...(read more!)
