The Waiting Game…

May 23, 2011 by Morgan 2 Comments

I decided to keep it short and sweet today.

Here in South Dakota it has been doing a lot of raining. And a lot of storming.

Which means that we are still playing that whole waiting game. Waiting for the rain to stop, waiting for it to dry again, waiting, waiting, waiting.

But, on a more positive note….the end of planting is drawing near.

Which sometimes mean if we know rain is coming we work late trying to get as much done as possible.

One thing you learn when you become a farm wife. Your husband does not work 8 hour days, it’s almost always a 12 to 14 hour day. During really busy times it’s more like 8 AM to 12 AM. So, in conclusion, being married to a farmer is not for the faint of heart.

Many of us are playing the same waiting game back home in Indiana. We should finish today with beans, but I sat across the table from several women who were no where near done or even started planting this year’s crop. It is going to be a very challenging year. Even with the seeds in the ground, the risk of drowning out sections of a field or damage from hail is still in play! You are so right when you say this job is NOT for the faint of heart! Hope it dries up your way soon!

I know! We are so lucky to have as much done as we have done too…There are so many farms out here that still have nearly all of their crops left! Hope it dries out more your way too!

I met my husband for the first time face to face on the exit ramp that is now down the road from our home. I lived in South Dakota for a year before I was sure I was ready to do this whole "farm wife" thing...(read more!)
