Mother Nature v. The Farmer

May 14, 2011 by Morgan 3 Comments

I am hoping that Mother Nature will be a bit kinder to farmers this next week.

However, a few things about farmers…

They complain when it’s too hot and we need rain.

They complain when there is too much rain and we need the sun and heat.

They complain when it’s too cold and then when it’s not cold enough to keep the ground frozen.

Remember that whole thing about being flexible when you farm? The weather is what it’s all about.

And to think someone actually mentioned the dreaded “s” word today…As in S-N-O-W.

Apparently, according to my father in law and brother in law they remember a time when corn was 2 inches tall and it snowed. I am hoping to never see this.

I met my husband for the first time face to face on the exit ramp that is now down the road from our home. I lived in South Dakota for a year before I was sure I was ready to do this whole "farm wife" thing...(read more!)
