I had a special request a while back to address cloth diapering on my blog, via my husband.
Now, when I first told my family and non cloth diapering friends we were planning on using cloth diapers I can not say that it was well received.
I believe everyone had this vision of pins and pails filled with water..Boy, are those days behind us!
A close friend of mine cloth diapers and even before I was pregnant I asked her lots of questions. By the time I got pregnant I was ready to ask my hubby about it. Surprisingly he jumped right on board! He thought the idea sounded great, and like any penny pinching farmer husband he was more than willing to save some money.
To diaper a baby from birth to potty trained it can cost anywhere from $2,500 to $3,000 according to a few of my pregnancy magazines. So, the idea of saving money was a hit..but what also gets to me is the fact that disposable diapers don’t burn. We live in the country, we don’t have a garbage service so we burn everything in a burn barrel. I recycle what doesn’t burn and burn the rest. But, the last thing is that no one really knows how long it takes a disposable diaper to break down, but it is estimated to take anywhere from 200 to 500 years.
I wouldn’t call my self a complete environmental friendly girl, but we only have one Earth- let’s all do our part. This was my way to do mine.
I could really do tons of blog posts on cloth diapering. But, I am not going to unless someone really wants to hear more.
I am by no means an expert. I found what works for me and I have stuck with it!
When I was pregnant I spent many hours researching all the different kinds. Even at the start of my labor I was still trying to decide what to go with at the hospital on my computer.
Eventually, I just picked. I looked for a good sale on a type of diaper that got good reviews and bought it. Great advice, huh?
Anyway, we didn’t cloth diaper in the beginning because we had tons and tons of Newborn size diapers. And I was set on using One Size for the duration of diapering. One size doesn’ really equal Newborn Size.
I chose two types of One Size diapers. Best Bottom Insert Diapers and Sweet Pea Pocket Diapers. Love them both! I got so lucky that they rock my socks off.
We had originally talked about cloth diapering only at home. But, after a few short weeks we decided to go full out and cloth diaper on the go too. It has been so easy and super amazing. I don’t know why, but you get this warm feeling every time you put a dirty cloth diaper in the pail…because Hey! You Can REUSE It!

We just started cloth diapering last week and wouldn’t you know the very first one I put on her and she dirty’d it right away. Since it never rains around here anymore I have been hanging them on the clothesline to dry. (how resourceful is that?!!?) best of luck with them.
Haha! Yes, Elliette totally did that too! Talk about perfect timing right?! Clothesline I have found to be wonderful. The sun does a great job of bringing out the stains. Best of luck to you too!
