Summer Traditions

July 11, 2013 by Morgan 4 Comments

Today I spent a good hour of my morning kneeling on the playroom floor using a storage bench as a table addressing these invites. I also spent a good part of that hour trying to keep my 15 month old from drooling all over them.

I always get a little mushy around this time of year. You see, this marks the first time that I met my husband face to face- remember we met on FarmersOnly.com.

The year I met my husband was the first year he threw a BBQ at what is now our home. I attended that first BBQ and remember it pretty vividly. I remember I was so appalled at myself to be meeting everyone for the first time with wet hair…how embarrassing.

Anyway, the invites for the BBQ used to be my hubby calling everyone up on the phone and by word of mouth. One of the things I really, really love to do is design. I am by no means an amazing designer. But, I design pretty much everything I send out on my own. They aren’t anything too fancy, but they work for me. I did our wedding invites, Christmas cards, birth announcements, BBQ invites, and even some free lancing stuff in there.

And, I even received a compliment from the graphic designer at the local place I print all our stuff at. She seriously MADE MY WEEK.

Even before I got back from our vacation I had my husband asking me if I sent the invites. If I even had them done. Well, I hadn’t sent them…but I did have them done! The truth is I have had them done for awhile now, since like March.

I swear I am not crazy, I just appreciate things being done way ahead of schedule. I also like to do as much as possible in the winter so that when South Dakota finally warms up I can enjoy being outside and spending less time in the house.

Anyway, I always love when it comes time for the Annual BBQ. It is almost like our deadline for stuff we want to get done in the summer time. Home improvement, new fencing, deep deep cleaning, washing our deck, cleaning windows. You know all that typical home owner stuff. This year that list included some re wiring in a building, grinding up some stumps from when we chopped our Cottonwoods down, and new shingles. It’s been a busy summer!

Last night we both started compiling the remainder of our lists to see if we had missed anything- or if either of us had expectations for the other when it came to getting certain things done.

We are right on track and I plan on sharing some of our home improvement things in weeks to come and I might get a little more mushy and talk about the first time I met my husband. On the exit ramp of exit 121. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Thursday Everyone!

What a fun tradition! It is nice to have something annually to not only see family and friends at but to also get the house and farm projects done by!

I met my husband for the first time face to face on the exit ramp that is now down the road from our home. I lived in South Dakota for a year before I was sure I was ready to do this whole "farm wife" thing...(read more!)
