Mommy Mondays: Elliette Turns Two

May 5, 2014 by Morgan 4 Comments

In case you have ever missed my posts before this about parties, I love planning them. Love hosting them. Love having the fellowship in my home!
Now that I have a little girl I love planning her birthday party! And I know that I only have a few short years where I get to choose the theme, colors, food, and everything in between.
So, needless to say I take full advantage!
This year I decided to go with lots of colors. I have a pretty tight budget, because honestly, it is a two year olds birthday. She won’t remember, I will, but she won’t. And plus it was a lot of fun planning it.
I was just going to do a few bright colors, then before I knew it I was doing lots of colors. All the colors of the rainbow to be exact.
And it turned out fabulously. I did a practice run of the cake the week before and got an idea for what we wanted it to look like. Elliette’s babysitter helped me with the cakes and then I let my version of the “cake boss”, aka my husband, do the icing on the cake.

And it’s pretty crazy to think last year she couldn’t blow out her candle and this year she kind of did!

My sister made her this adorable outfit for her birthday that she loved and I had lots of colorful bows that I clipped into her hair. She loved getting dressed up for her special day!
For the decor I used paper and streamers. Simple. I used my sister’s stack of paper and her paper cutter and then I stocked up on some streamers at Dollar Tree.
Amazingly, all those streamers took a lot longer to hang than I thought they would…

And I did grab a bouquet of balloons when I was at the Dollar Tree because one thing my little girl loves is balloons. So much that whenever we are even near Dollar Tree in town she wants to stop and get a balloon.

This year, and also last year, I went for having the birthday party at 2 PM. This means that I can serve snack food. I carried the rainbow theme over into the food too. It was all very pretty, if I say so myself!

One of my favorite ideas would probably have to be the Thank You cards. This is something I am pretty adamant about. I believe in the power of a good thank you card. And I know this is something Elliette can’t quite grasp yet, but I always have her help me and explain why we are doing them.
I had a stack of paint sample cards in my crafty supplies and they were all so bright I really wanted to do something with them for her birthday but I wasn’t sure what. The idea hit me at about midnight and they were perfect, cheap and a very cute thank you card. And Ellie could easily help. I glued the paint sample to some white card stock and then let Ellie help me run the stamp.
Then on the paint sample I wrote a simple message to say thank you for whatever gift Elliette received at her party. It worked out perfectly!
It’s hard to believe my tiny girl is already two! I love that she is becoming her own person and I love that she is testing every limit, as frustrating as it can be, it’s hard to imagine my day without her devious little smile and inching her way towards whatever it is she shouldn’t be inching towards!
I love her snuggles every morning and how she asks for cereal for every single meal. I love how she is learning her manners and learning to say “love you” all on her own. Life wouldn’t be the same without her a part of it!

I met my husband for the first time face to face on the exit ramp that is now down the road from our home. I lived in South Dakota for a year before I was sure I was ready to do this whole "farm wife" thing...(read more!)
