Mommy Mondays: Why I Love When My Dad Comes To Visit

September 10, 2013 by Morgan 1 Comment

He always does stuff.

We are full force into harvest right now, but instead of talking about farming…I want to talk about Mommy stuff today!

Anyway, back to my Dad. I love when he comes because he always does stuff.

Always. Big stuff too. Not just constantly washing dishes. I mean like real “Honey Do” stuff.

And of course I love to see him too!

If you remember 2 years ago we worked on our deck, for two summers straight. And have this wonderful result.

And now we use it and play on it all the time!

Then he made me some shelving and saddle storage in my horse shed.

Which, I love and use all the time. Although, not for horsey stuff anymore. For general livestock and pets.

In April, my family all came out for Elliette’s birthday. And my Dad asked for something to do. Jason had anticipated him asking. I, on the other hand, had nothing for him.

Since I have a slight case of OCD. I have lists. “Before Baby” lists. Before Baby 1, 2, and maybe 3. Well, I had mentioned wanting some benches in our sun room (aka playroom). That was on my before Baby maybe 3. Jason thought this would be a good project for him. I just shrugged and said “Sure!”. Once again, I was thinking simple. Some plywood, compartment benches.

Here is our sunroom.

And the men hard at work…

My Dad managed to whip these bad boys out in a couple of days. I LOVE THEM! And Ellie and I pretty much use them every single day. The storage buckets underneath I purchased at our local farm supply store when they were on clearance for about $6 or $7 a piece. I pretty much bought them out. Because not only do I have these 8. I think I have about 10 more in the basement.

To add a little more character to the buckets I also used a cricut and cut out some numbers (no updated pictures).

In my vision I was seeing two more, encompassing the sun room. But, everyone keeps telling me to stick with two and keep my comfy chairs for the adults. I am still going back and forth on in, it seems after a few more additions to our playroom I am quickly running out of room for my comfy chairs!

This project was super cheap for us, since my Dad had given us a ton of solid oak a few years ago. We had yet to use it or come up with a project for it, I think this was the perfect place to start!

Next week I will share our next project with this lumber- another addition to the sunroom, now playroom!

Happy Monday!

Wow I don’t think he lives too far from me. Next time I may have to call him. Does he do this as a profession? Your room looks great.

I met my husband for the first time face to face on the exit ramp that is now down the road from our home. I lived in South Dakota for a year before I was sure I was ready to do this whole "farm wife" thing...(read more!)
