When you think about Farmers do you ever think of them as artists?

During our week of chopping silage, as I watched my father-in-law push silage I was standing there thinking, such an art.
It truly takes an artist with talent to get the silage packed just right, and for it to look just right.
Then later on as my brother-in-law blew silage over one truck to another I realized farming really is an art in itself.
Going back to our definition of art…I would say farming is quality and production of food, which is beautiful. But I also think it is definitely more than an ordinary experience.
Here’s to the world’s lesser known artists, but the ones we should appreciate the most.

Awesome post! I have never really thought of it this way, but you are so true. We don’t pack our silage, but fill bags. My family packs and it is so interesting to watch. I always get a bit nervous at first.
So, this corn isn’t for human consumption at all? You grow it just to chop it up into feed for animals?

Yes, in these particular pictures the corn we are chopping is for feed. We also feed beef cattle on our farm. There are two types of corn, sweet corn (the kind you buy at the grocery store) and then field corn (the kind that is grown for animal feed). We actually grow a patch of sweet corn for our family and our neighbors, or really anyone that wants to pick it! It’s a really good question, and actually a really common one. I always get so nervous when I am up on top of the silage pile riding along with my husband as he packs the pile. So high up, at least 20 feet. This year I was actually enlisted to help pack the last little bit and let me tell you- My nerves were so shot by the time I was done!
Thanks for answering. My step dad was a wheat farmer but I only lived on the farm two years so didn’t really know much about farming.
