With the drought we have been experiencing across the midwest a lot of questions I have been getting lately is how that is going to affect the food prices for the next year.
This diagram shows a wonderful representation of where the money from $1.00 US Food Dollar goes. For the last 60 years the amount of money that farmers and ranchers get from the food dollar has significantly decreased. In 1950 it was $.40, today it is less than $.12
One thing to keep in mind, regardless of where food prices go, is that as American we have one of the most affordable food supplies in the world. We spend around 10% of our income on food, versus 18 to 25% around the world.

God bless the American Farmer… there is going to be a great shortage of them when they are needed most because every year it gets more difficult to sustain family farms. I am so thankful that my fiance’s family farm (3rd gen) has survived another year. However, we need moisture in the most desperate way possible.

Have a grumpy reader? Some never will understand what we do, why we do it, or how much it all costs in blood, sweat, and tears BEFORE we start the money exchanges. Yes, a boat load usually comes in, but it sails right back out with most of what it brought. Keep telling them the truth. You are doing a great job!

No, not quite Lana! I have a lot of spam coming through lately..I may have to put my privacy settings back up..it is getting rather annoying- any tips? ๐
